Visa
In order to attract an increasing number of tourists to the country, a multiple-entry tourist visa for up to 60 days is provided for citizens of foreign states and a simplified visa regime has been established with 126 states. Also, from January 1, 2022, a visa-free regime for 1 month was introduced for citizens of 52 countries of the world to enter the republic.

Based on the visa-free regime agreement, citizens of more than 20 countries of the world, including the Russian Federation, do not need a visa to enter Tajikistan. According to international assessments, the Tajik e-visa system entered the top five visa issuance systems and ranked fourth. Tourist Police
The Tourist Police was established on April 24, 2018 under the Department of Ecology and Tourism of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan. Its main goal and objectives are to ensure the safety and security of tourists in the country, to prevent crimes and law violations against tourists and to provide them with legal assistance. Safety and security is one of the factors affecting the development of tourism. Therefore, necessary measures are being taken in Tajikistan to create favorable conditions in our country for foreign citizens to feel safe in the environment when traveling and visiting cultural, historical, archaeological and other attractions. Currently, it operates in the regions and in all towns and districts of the country. It is worth noting that tourist police service points operate at Dusti border crossing of Tursunzoda, Sarazm border crossing of Panjakent and Fotehobod border crossing of Mastchoh district. These service points are used in cooperation with Tcell mobile company. The tourist police, equipped with all the necessary equipment, works in close cooperation with the Committee for Tourism Development under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan and travel companies of the country.
Currency
As of October 30, 2000, Somoni is a national currency of Tajikistan, which became a worthy replacement of the Tajik Rouble. International designation – TJS. One Somoni is equal to 100 Dirams. Present day on the territory of Tajikistan banknotes of the following nominal are involved in the monetary circulation: 1, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100 and 1, 5, 20, 50 Dirams and coins: 1, 5, 10, 20, 25, 50 Dirams and 1, 3 and 5 Somoni. Name of the Tajik national currency derives from the name of Ismail Somoni, the founder of the first Tajik state. There is the national emblem and flag of Tajikistan on each banknote. All the denominations have different colours, sizes and specific images. Mostly all the bills has depictions of Tajik outstanding people, historical and cultural monuments.
How to get here?
You can get to sunny Tajikistan by plane, train or car. Tajikistan has direct flights to the cities of Moscow, St. Petersburg, Alma-Ata, Bishkek, Riga, Istanbul, Dubai, Urumqi, Tehran, Mashhad, Frankfurt am Main. More than 10 national and foreign carriers’ companies operate on the market of air services of the republic on the newly acquired Boeing aircraft. Also national airlines “Tajik Air” and “Somon Air” carry out more than 10 flights a week to various regions of the republic of Khujand, Kulyab, Khorog. In Tajikistan, there are several airports of local and international destination. In particular, one of the major international terminals is located at the airport located in the suburbs of Khujand.

When you travel across Tajikistan you can experience a wide range of seasons and climate zones all within one trip – see subtropics and highland tundra with permafrost, blooming fertile valleys and glaciers, alpine meadows and scorched desserts. You can discover the full beauty of the picturesque countryside by travelling through Tajikistan by jeep tours or by taxies (for example Dushanbe-Khorog, Dushanbe-Penjikent etc.). The biggest motorways in Tajikistan are: Dushanbe-Termez; Dushanbe – Kurgan-Tube; Dushanbe – Kulob – Khorog; Dushanbe – Khujand. A new road has recently been opened between Kulma, Karakurum, Kashgar – one of the four routes of the Great Silk Road that passed in ancient times through Tajikistan. However, please note that currently Kulma Pass is only open for Tajik and Chineses citizens. After building necessary infrastructure from Tajik side, foreign tourists will be able to cross between China and Tajikistan in Kulma Pass. Railway links, are only possible in small parts of the north-western region of Tajikistan. For travelling to Sogd or Badakhshan regions from Dushanbe is ideally by 4WD car, which can easily take you through the mountainous passes and any part of the country. You can book shared taxis, which are also often referred to private cars that take passengers to many places throughout the country, which make the trip a more economical way to travel. For instance the cost of a trip from Dushanbe to Khujand is 130 TJS ($30 USD). If you are interested in renting a car with a driver for several hours or days then you should contact travel agencies or tour operators in within Tajikistan for detailed information. The public transport network in Dushanbe comprises some 74 routes, namely 34 bus routes, 13 trolleybus routes and 27 mini bus routes. There is a trolleybus station in Dushanbe where you can find some 100 trolleybuses at a time. Every day 152 buses, 75 trolleybuses, 160 mini buses are operating from Dushanbe to a wide range of destinations within Tajikistan. Moreover every day more than 870 private taxi cabs operate in the city. The cost of bus and trolleybus is 60 dirams (15 cents) and for mini bus 1 somoni (25 cents) within the city. If you are planning to drive yourself then you should remember that the import and driving of cars with right-hand side steering wheel is not permitted in Tajikistan. Vehicles with tinted windows are only allowed after paying a fee of TJS 2,000 somoni ($500 USD) to the government. Previously required “obligatory fees for nature use” were abolished in April 2009. In other words, obligatory fees for visiting mountain areas and ecological collection of up to 100 USD is now no longer required. If you are planning to spend your time in the mountain areas we recommend that you purchase an adequate travel insurance from your home country or in Tajikistan. Your insurance should cover medical and evacuation expenses and the type of activity that you are intending to undertake such as rock climbing, mountainous-sport tourism, trekking, ecotourism and etc.

Tajikistan offers a wide range of hotels for tourists. The country has many hotels of different categories – from luxurious 5-star to budget options. Hotels are located in various cities and regions of the country, so tourists can choose a hotel depending on their travel plans.
Some of the most popular cities to visit in Tajikistan are Dushanbe, Khujand, Khorog, Penjikent and Chkalovsk. These cities have many hotels that offer various amenities and services for tourists.
Tajikistan also offers many budget hotels for those who want to save on accommodation. These hotels usually have lower prices but offer all the necessary amenities for a comfortable stay.
